Michael Mischke, owner of Villager Communications Inc. and publisher of the St. Paul-based
Villager newspaper, has announced the promotion of General Manager John Rauch
to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Rauch is the first CEO of the company outside
of the Mischke family in over 40 years.
"The time is right for John to assume this leadership role," Mischke said. "The demand for
local news has never been greater, and the Villager is uniquely positioned to satisfy that
demand. No news medium speaks to the 126,000 readers in our neighborhoods better
than we do, and no one understands our operation and the challenges and opportunities
that lie ahead of us better than John."
Rauch, a St. Paul native who earned his B.A. degree in international business from the
University of Minnesota, joined the Villager as general manager in 1992. "That move
alone made us a better newspaper then," Mischke said, "and this one will make us an
even better one going forward. It's good news for our company, our advertisers and our
readers alike."
Founded in 1953, Villager Communications Inc. is a privately held company solely owned
by Michael Mischke. VCI publishes the Villager, the oldest and largest neighborhood
newspaper in the Twin Cities. The newspaper is published twice a month on Wednesdays,
with free door-to-door delivery to 100 percent of the 50,000 homes and businesses across
the neighborhoods it serves and an additional 10,000 copies distributed via newsstands
and mailed subscriptions.
