The Bakersfield Californian moved toward its fifth generation as a family-owned and run newspaper Monday as publisher Virginia F. "Ginger" Moorhouse named her youngest daughter associate publisher.
The announcement puts Virginia "Ginny" Cowenhoven, 39, a former advertising account executive now studying business leadership, next in line to become publisher of the newspaper her great-great grandfather, Alfred Harrell, purchased in 1897.
