Virtual Watchdog: Reporters Without Borders Opens Office In 'Second Life'

By: E&P Staff In a first for a press freedom organization, Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF for its initials in French) on Thursday, World Press Freedom Day, opened an office in the online virtual world Second Life.

Second Life "residents," who navigate the online world and interact through avatars, can find information about press freedom in the world, RSF's latest bulletins about press freedom violations, and see the photos and biographies of the 34 "predators of press freedom" it has identified.

There are at least ten newspapers operating in Second Life, which claims more than 6 million residents, about 1.7 million of whom logged in in the last 60 days.

To find the office type "Reporters sans frontieres" in the Second Life search engine.
