Mediaweek.com) Looking to expand its brand further into radio, The Wall Street Journal Radio Network said it would launch an hour-long morning show beginning in late September. "The Wall Street Journal This Morning" will be hosted by Ron Kilgore, an anchor and reporter for KFWB-AM, Infinity Broadcasting's News station in Los Angeles.
The show is the network's second foray into long-form programming since 1999, when it ended a three-year run of a two-hour weekend show, "Work and Family."
"We'd like to look at opportunities to do things throughout the day and on weekends, but we need to get this one launched first," said Paul Bell, executive director of The WSJ Radio Networks.
The new morning show, which will focus on daily issues and stories affecting personal finance such as managing retirement savings in a skittish market, should provide more momentum for the network, which provides daily business news updates to 180 radio stations.
"Business news is an underserved category in network and syndicated radio," said Paul Bell, executive director of The WSJ Radio Network, who is expecting a slow ramp-up with about a dozen stations at launch.
The new show will also help
The Wall Street Journal expand its cross-selling efforts with print and online, Bell said. "It has more sponsorable segments," he noted.
Chuck Fishman will be the show's producer. Fishman is currently editor of CNET Radio's morning show and producer of "AnchorDesk with David Coursey."
