The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has rescheduled its 10th annual Publish Asia conference for August 3-5 in Kuala Lumpur. Originally to convene in Bangkok earlier this month, the conference was postponed owning to violence in Thailand's capital.
"We had hoped that a peaceful settlement to the political crisis would be possible," Pichai Chuensuksawadi, Post Publishing editor-in-chief and WAN-IFRA Asian Committee chairman, said in a statement. "Regretfully, the present situation in Bangkok is not conducive for an international event like Publish Asia."
In Malaysia, where newpapers hold more than half the advertising market, leading publishers recently announced record profits, and new print and online titles are appearing.
The program of three concurrent conferences -- CEO Conference, Newsroom Summit Asia and Printing Summit Asia -- will be accompanied by a suppliers' expo and several workshops.
