WAN-IFRA's postponed Ninth International Newsroom Summit will convene in London, Sept. 8-9, retaining most of the original program and schedule and adding some new speakers and case studies.

Reetta Meriläinen, the key editorial person when Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat went digital 1993-1996 and now its editor-in-chief, will share her experiences working in two newsrooms that reside under the same roof. The up-market daily and its sister afternoon tabloid, Ilta Sanomat, in recent years experienced major changes and met the challenges in different ways.

Examining cultural change from different starting points, detailed audience research and segmentation with strong impact on content and newsroom redesign, Meriläinen will compare two different approaches to improving and developing the company's publishing business.

Other industry figures participating include Die Zeit (Germany) Managing Director Rainer Esser, City University of New York Associate Professor Jeff Jarvis (video link), Archant (U.K.) CEO Adrian Jeakings, Washington Post Managing Editor Raju Narisetti, and Ringier Germany/Switzerland CEO Marc Walder.
