By: Joe Strupp Tom Waseleski, editorial page editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, has been named acting president of the National Conference of Editorial Writers (NCEW).
The executive committee of the 441-member group approved the appointment following the departure of David Holwerk of The Sacramento Bee, who stepped down as president after joining the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio.
Waseleski, the NCEW's former vice president, has been with the Post-Gazette since 1982. He joined the newspaper's editorial board as an associate editor in 1990 and became editorial page editor in 2003.
A former president of the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors and the Pittsburgh chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, Waseleski will serve as acting president until NCEW?s elections in September. He previously served NCEW as a board member and as convention chair.
