By: E&P Staff Washingtonpost.com said today it has extended the period in which its online archive is available for free to 60 days.
The paper had previously offered 14 days of free access.
Caroline Little, CEO and publisher of washingtonpost.com, said in a statement that the change came in response to user demand and the increasing longevity of news on the Web due at least in part to the emergence of blogs.
"The great majority of requests for archives is for content that has appeared in the last 30-60 days," Little said in the statement. "Part of the impact of blogs and other sites that link to us is that information stays current and part of the national conversation for a longer time. People should be able to access that information easily and without charge."
The majority of the Post?s digital archive, which dates back to 1877, will remain available for $3.95 per article or for a variety of bulk pricing options.
