Washington Post Co. Acquires Online High School

By: E&P Staff The Washington Post Company's subsidiary Kaplan Inc. has announced the acquisition of the Sagemont Virtual company, which has been doing business as University of Miami Online High School (UMOHS), as well as Virtual Sage, a company that develops online high school courses.

Sagemont Virtual, which is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), has been offering online high school diplomas since 2001. Virtual Sage has developed approximately 200 online courses for high school students, which are used by online high school programs across the U.S.

The businesses will be managed by Kaplan Higher Education. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
