Washington Post Co. To Be Part Of S&P 500

By: E&P Staff The Washington Post Co. will be added to the Standard & Poor's 500 Index after the close of trading Friday.

The company moves up to the "Large Cap" list of 500 companies after having been in the S&P MidCap 400 for several years.

In its announcement, the Washington Post Co. again de-emphasized the newspaper segment of its business, describing itself as "a diversified education and media company whose principal operations include educational and career services, newspaper and magazine publishing, television broadcasting, cable television systems and electronic information services."

In mid-day trading Friday, the company (NYSE: WPO) was at $801.99, up $2.03, or .25%.
