By: Mark Fitzgerald One day after ending its longtime news service partnership with the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post said late Thursday that it would launch a global news service with Bloomberg next January.
"The Washington Post News Service with Bloomberg News" will be available to news organization starting Jan. 1, offering a selection of 120 stories plus photos and graphics taken from the Post and Bloomberg News.
Bloomberg and the Post are also going to produce a co-branded business news page on washingtonpost.com, the newspaper said.
The Post's entire news content will be available in real time to subscribers to the Bloomberg Professional service over Bloomberg terminals.
"This is a formidable collaboration," Post Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli said in a statement. "It brings together The Post's vast expertise on politics and policy news in Washington with Bloomberg's highly regarded global financial, economic and political news franchise."
On Wednesday, the Post announced the end of its 47-year-old wire service with the Los Angeles Times, which said that effective Jan. 1 it would distribute some content through the news service jointly owned by parent Tribune Co. and The McClatchy Co. The Post-Los Angeles Times service had about 600 subscribers.
