The Washington Post has decided to let the leases lapse on all but two of its local bureaus over the next three years, in a bid to save money on real estate while keeping reporters.

“We are excited that we are going to be able to take the money and reinvest in it people and technology, which is where the play is,” said Vernon Loeb, the Post’s local editor, in an interview with POLITICO.

Beginning next year, the Post has decided to let the leases on four offices in Virginia – Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Arlington and Alexandria and Prince William County – and three offices in Maryland – Montgomery County and Prince George’s County.
