'Washington Post's Federal Diary Continues With New Author

Posted
By: Joe Strupp The Washington Post's "Federal Diary" column, which dates back to the Hoover Administration, will continue under Joe Davidson, a Post metro section editor. He succeeds Stephen Barr.

Post Publicist Maria Cereghino announced the latest Diary author in an e-mail that states most recently Davidson "oversaw the coverage of D.C. education and development, and regional and national religion events, including the Pope?s historic trip to Washington. Previously, at The Wall Street Journal, Davidson covered a variety of government agencies and political campaigns. Before that, he worked in Philadelphia as chief of the City Hall bureau for the Bulletin."

She added that, "The Federal Diary, which covers the critical issues facing federal employees, has flourished for more than 75 years, developing a broad and dedicated readership."

Barr, who handled the column for eight years, is leaving as part of the Post's buyout, which saw the departure of more than 100 newsroom staffers since the spring.

In his final column on June 13, Barr wrote, "The joy of this column is the opportunity to meet people in the federal community and learn from them. The nation's capital, as the headquarters for the government, attracts people who strive to make a difference, to make life better for their fellow Americans. Getting to know these sincere and creative employees and executives has helped propel this column."
