By: E&P Staff The Washington Times named Sam Dealey as its new editor. Dealey is a former African correspondent who has served as editor of the Asian Wall Street Journal's Culture & Thought page, assistant managing editor of the American Spectator, and contributing editor to U.S. News & World Report and Reader's Digest.
Dealey has been Time magazine's Africa correspondent, reporting on the region as well for CNN and "The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer" on PBS.
"Sam Dealey is a stylish writer and intrepid journalist who has reported from the deserts of Sudan to the mountains of Afghanistan and who will bring that excellent record of reporting and writing to his new job as editor of The Washington Times," Peter Bergen, a journalist and senior research fellow at the New America Foundation, told the paper.
For Dealey, the editorship is a return to the Washington Times, where he was an editorial board member. He also wrote for the Wall Street Journal's editorial page in Hong Kong.
"We are proud to welcome Sam to The Washington Times after an intensive nationwide search," Jonathan Slevin, president and publisher of The Times, said in a statement.
"Sam is a talented and accomplished journalist and the right person to lead our newsroom as The Times continues to serve as an independent watchdog for the American people. We are honored to respond to the local, national and global demand for reliable and trustworthy information with a Washington, D.C.-based news company that can adapt with speed and flexibility to meet the audience and business needs of the 21st century," he said.
