WashingtonPost.Newsweek Interactive Launches 'Global Power Barometer'

Posted
By: E&P Staff Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive has launched a new online tool designed to "measure which nations, ideologies or movements are the most powerful, based on how they influence world events and opinions."

The Global Power Barometer (GPB) is now available on washingtonpost.com's and Newsweek.com's blog on international issues. The feature was created following research to determine influential sources from the international media, academia, governments, and NGOs, which are weighted to offer insight into the most powerful nations and ideologies without giving value judgments. Its purpose is to give the media "a way to aggregate reports for their audiences by taking advantage of this interactive snapshot of what the world is saying and thinking," according to a release.

"We need new tools to help us make sense of the world around us. With our partners at Denver Research Group, we have created an intelligent information aggregator that analyzes global trends," said David Ignatius, a Washington Post columnist, in a statement. Ignatius is a co-moderator of PostGlobal with Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria. "The Global Power Barometer offers a clear daily snapshot of what the world is saying and thinking. We can ask questions like who is becoming the dominant power in the Middle East, and the GPB will help us determine the answer."
