By: E&P Staff This week, washingtonpost.com launched a new blog directory in partnership with Outside.in. The online newspaper features a "Buzz Map," which lists the most blogged about issues and events by neighborhood.
The map organizes not only outside content from bloggers, but content and stories from the Washington Post.
It works like this (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/local-blog-directory/buzzmap/): A user can zoom in and out of the interactive map of the District, Maryland, and Virginia with bubbles that signify blogging activity. The dark bubbles represent blogs and stories from places outside the newspaper while the orange bubbles carry news from the Washington Post. For example, a bubble on the National Zoo lists 30 local blog posts and stories about the place. A brief description along with a link to the sites sits below the map.
"Washingtonpost.com's local blog directory offers a destination for comprehensive community news in support of the area's blogging community," Jonathan Krim, assistant managing editor of local news for washingtonpost.com, said in a statement. "The 'Buzz Map' makes it easy for readers to visualize the areas generating the most coverage and enhances their ability to connect and interact."
The Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Outside.in shares revenue of the online ads that appear on Buzz Map with the washingtonpost.com.
