'Wausau (Wis.) Daily Herald' Appoints President/Publisher

By: E&P Staff Michael Beck has been appointed president and publisher of the Wausau (Wis.) Daily Herald.

In addition, he has been named a vice president of Gannett's Midwest Group, overseeing the Wausau, Marshfield, Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids newspapers.

Since 2000, Beck has served as president and publisher of the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

"Mike is an experienced publisher with an editorial background and a record of strong management," Sue Clark-Johnson, president of Gannett's newspaper division, said in a statement. "He is a great example of the talent you develop when you promote from within."

Beck has twice won the company's President's Ring for publishing, and twice for editing. He also was honored with Gannett's Newsroom Supervisor Recognition Award.

He joined Gannett in 1987 at The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla., and was named assistant managing editor at the Ithaca (N.Y.) Journal in 1994. He became managing editor at the Iowa City newspaper in 1995.
