By: Joe Strupp Less than a year after leaving her job as executive editor of the Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune to become dean of the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla., Janet Weaver is headed back to the newsroom. But she won't have to travel far, taking a job as managing editor of The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune.
Frank Denton, the newspaper's editor, made the announcement Monday in The Tribune's newsroom, according to TBO.com. Weaver had joined the Poynter Institute in November.
Weaver had served as managing editor of the Sarasota paper, as well as managing editor of The Wichita (Kan.) Eagle and deputy managing editor of The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk.
Weaver said she enjoyed her work at Poynter, but missed being in the newsroom, TBO.com reported.
Denton said it's exciting to have someone of Weaver's integrity, caliber and high standards joining the Tribune.
Weaver will take over the job July 12.
