By: E&P Staff Those looking for some direction regarding the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's new 2004 standards will have the opportunity to attend an
online seminar hosted by the Newspaper Association of America on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Gary Jones, manager of environmental health and safety affairs for the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation/Printing Industries of America, will present changes and updates in OSHA standards in relation to the newspaper industry.
Jones will hit such topics as the changes in record-keeping forms for work-related injuries and illnesses, enforcement initiatives and what's on the radar screen for possible revisions.
In addition, Jones will offer suggestions on how to prevent some of the top 20 violations committed by newspapers, like proper machine guarding (covering up potential hazards like chains or pulleys) and lock out/tag out requirements, which keep someone from turning on a machine undergoing maintenance.
The seminar will take about an hour. Those attending will be required to dial a 1-800 number and have access to the Web.
