Weldon Greeneberg, 61, a longtime circulation executive with The Daily Journal of Kankakee, Ill., died suddenly Sunday morning while on vacation, according to the newspaper.
Greeneberg had been the circulation manager at The Daily Journal since 1987. In 1990, he won the Central States Circulation Managers Association president's award, given to the top executive in the circulation profession in the Midwest.
He began as a newspaper carrier at The Pantagraph in Bloomington, Ill. as a circulation district sales manager. From 1970 to 1987, he was circulation manager for the Daily Leader in Pontiac, Ill.
Mr. Greeneberg was remembered by colleagues as a man who knew every aspect of the circulation business thoroughly and one who was always fair and professional in his dealings with fellow employees and customers.
The winner of many Central States Circulation Managers awards, Mr. Greeneberg won first place in the newspaper promotion category 11 times. In 1985 he was named the Central States Outstanding Young Circulation Executive.
He was past president and chairman of both the Central States and the Circulation Management of Illinois boards.
