Last Thursday Quartz launched its first dedicated news app for the iPhone. On the one hand, that might appear to be an act of madness - there isn't exactly a shortage of apps that offer news content; many that do have other functionalities to increase their stickiness; and there's research to suggest there's limited point to launching if you won't be among the four most opened apps on a user's phone.
Ahead of the launch, I wrote: 'Speaking to Nieman Lab, Quartz’s publisher Jay Lauf was reticent to share too much about the new product, but a statistic he shared about Quartz’s proportion of mobile revenue is telling.
