By: Wichita State University will fund its student newspaper next year, regardless of any recommendations from a task force studying its operations.
Wichita State president Donald Beggs says a committee has been formed to review the paper after complaints about its quality. But Beggs says the
review is not tied to funding for the paper.
The committee met yesterday and agreed to focus on the newspaper's structure. The panel will meet again in mid-August.
Staff members of the Sunflower newspaper said last month that they were preparing for a First Amendment fight, possibly in court, over what they said was illegal censorship.
The newspaper gets about half of its $155,000 annual budget from student fees, with the rest from advertising.
