Widow Succeeds Husband as Publisher in Roswell

Posted
By: E&P Staff The widow of longtime Roswell Daily Record publisher Cory Beck has been named his successor. Robert Beck, the newspaper's owner and former publisher, announced his daughter-in-law Dana Beck, 47, as the new publisher last week.

She said she was honored to continue the legacy that her husband's family had established over the years.

''We're going to carry on Cory's mandate, which was clear -- treat all people fairly and provide balanced coverage of the news. I appreciate the confidence that my father-in-law has placed in me and it will not be taken lightly,'' she said.

Cory Beck died from a sudden illness on Dec. 17 in Las Cruces. He was 53.

He became publisher of the Daily Record in 1987, when his father stepped down from the job. He had worked at the Daily Record, the Albuquerque Journal, the El Paso Times and The Daily Item in Sunbury, Pa., before succeeding his father.

Since meeting Cory Beck in 1995, Dana Beck became involved with the newspaper with increasing levels of responsibility and in 2000, she created the senior magazine Platinum, of which she is the editor.
