Cape Cod Times president and publisher John N. Wilcox will become executive vice president of the Times' parent company, Ottaway Newspapers Inc., the company announced Thursday.
Wilcox, 56, has been publisher of the
Times since 1996 after serving as publisher of two other Ottaway newspapers. He will succeed Joseph Richter as president of Ottaway Newspapers when Richter retires at the end of 2002.
Times general manager Peter D. Meyer will succeed Wilcox as president and publisher. Meyer, 42, a 15-year veteran at the
Times, has been general manager since 1994.
The changes will be effective Jan. 1.
Wilcox also has been publisher of the
Joplin (Mo.)
Globe and
Owatonna (Minn.)
People's Press, and general manager of
The News-Times in Danbury, Conn. A graduate of Minnesota State University, he joined Ottaway in 1970 as an advertising representative at
The Free Press in Mankato, Minn.
Meyer, a graduate of Western Michigan University, joined the
Times after working as an executive with Dow Jones & Co. in Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California.
Ottaway, based in Campbell Hall, N.Y., has 19 dailies, 13 Sunday papers, and more than 30 weeklies and shoppers in 13 states.
Its other Massachusetts papers include the
Gloucester Daily Times,
The Daily Newsof Newburyport, the
Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror,
The Salem Evening News, and
The Standard-Times of New Bedford.
