By: E&P Staff A "Will Rogers Writers' Workshop" will be held from March 15-18 next year in Oklahoma City, the National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) announced today.
The 2007 event is sponsored by the NSNC in partnership with the Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop, and will be hosted by The Oklahoman of Oklahoma City and NewsOK.com. The Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation is providing major funding for the program.
"Training is a key element in our annual conferences, including this year's June 30-July 2 meeting in Boston," said NSNC President Suzette Martinez Standring. "The Will Rogers Writers' Workshop will be the most extensive training program we have undertaken and it will produce valuable benefits for writers of all types."
The workshop -- at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City -- will have room for 300 attendees. They could include columnists, feature writers, editorialists, humor writers, authors, online writers, and others.
NSNC Secretary/The Oklahoman columnist Robert Haught is director of the workshop -- named for Will Rogers (1879-1935), the cowboy philosopher-humorist who wrote more than 4,000 newspaper columns, authored six books, did radio commentaries, and more.
