Will Rogers Writing Contest Announced

By: E&P Staff The National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) announced today that it's sponsoring a Will Rogers Writing Contest.

Rogers (1879-1935) had a many-faceted career that included writing more than 4,000 newspaper columns.

Prizes will be awarded for 500-750-word essays that best reflect Rogers' style of writing. The first-place winner receives a free registration (worth $250) to the Will Rogers Writers' Workshop, to be held March 15-18, 2007, at the Renaissance Convention Center Hotel in Oklahoma City. Second place entitles the winner to half-price registration and third place earns a $50 discount on registration.

NSNC is presenting the workshop in partnership with the Erma Bombeck Writers Workshop at the University of Dayton. The Rogers workshop director is Robert Haught, a columnist for The Oklahoman of Oklahoma City.

The deadline for the contest (rules and details here) is October 1, 2006. Winners will be announced November 1.
