Wisconsin State Assembly Considers Shield Law Bill

Posted
By: A proposed state law poised to pass the Wisconsin state Assembly on Tuesday would protect journalists from having to reveal confidential sources.

Backed by the state's newspapers, broadcasters and other media outlets, the proposal is being heralded as a protection not only for journalists but also the anonymous sources who come to them with hot tips.

Wisconsin has court rulings offering some protections for reporters in Wisconsin but no state law.

No one is on record as opposing the measure, which must also pass the Senate and be signed by the governor before it becomes law.

The Senate bill is awaiting a hearing.
