By: The publisher of the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times in Madison says it will cut 12 positions.
The State Journal reported Tuesday that most of the cuts will come from the two newsrooms.
The cuts were blamed on the difficult economy. They will be both voluntary and involuntary. Employees losing their jobs will receive a severance package comparable to previous reductions, based on years of service.
Lee Enterprises has a 50 percent ownership in Capital Newspapers Inc., which publishes the Wisconsin State Journal, The Capital Times and other Wisconsin papers.
Lee reported Tuesday that its fiscal first-quarter earnings fell 69 percent and it is cutting 10 percent of its work force.
