By: E&P Staff The newspaper grab continues with the country?s top three online recruiting sites. Today, Monster.com said that several newspapers have joined its network.

Freedom Communications, North Jersey Media Group, owner of The Record in Bergen, N.J., the Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Times Leader, and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin have partnered with Monster. The company now has 43 daily newspapers in its network.

?Today?s announcement marks another step forward in our localization strategy,? said Doug Klinger, president of Monster North America, in a statement. ?Monster continues to pursue small and medium-sized businesses as one of our major areas of growth, and media alliances help us solidify and grow our presence in the regions where these companies are based.?

For Freedom Communications, the classified advertising network will extend into 16 states with the company?s newspaper and television properties. The first co-branded site will launch with company?s flagship paper, The Orange County (Calif.) Register, in addition to The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the East Valley Tribune in Meza, Ariz., by the end of December. The remaining Freedom newspapers will go live by the end of March 2007 while the TV stations are scheduled to launch by the end of June 2007.

?This is the first step in an overarching strategic initiative to significantly enhance the products and services offered by all online Freedom properties nationwide,? said Michael Mathieu, president of Freedom Interactive, in a statement.

The Times Leader?s co-branded site will go live in the coming weeks while the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and North Jersey Media Group will be unveiled in January 2007.

Monster has also aligned with The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News.

Last week, 176 newspapers announced a partnership with Yahoo that included an alliance with its recruitment site HotJobs.
