By: E&P Staff Winners of this year's 31st annual National Press Club journalism awards competition in 20 categories were announced today. E&P's "Ethics Corner" columnist Allan Wolper was named runner-up for the Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism, single entry, print media. The winner in that category was Charles Layton of the American Journalism Review.

"This year's winners represent some of the highest quality journalism done last year," said National Press Club President Sheila Cherry. "The judges were impressed with work that was insightful and compelling on subjects ranging from terrorism to airplane safety ... In a year marked by ongoing questions about media credibility, journalists across the country continued to give the public an unbiased and in-depth look at the issues that affect peoples' daily lives," said Cherry. "And in many cases reporters risked, or lost, their lives in their dogged pursuit of the truth."

The winners will be honored at a dinner at the National Press Club in Washington on July 12.
