Women's eNews Hosting Two Panels at Democratic Convention

Posted
By: Dave Astor Women's eNews will host two panels at the Democratic convention in Denver.

Also at the convention, the news service will provide the women's media desk 50 copies of a daily briefing on women's events for distribution to other media.

On Aug. 27, Women's eNews will present a roundtable of congressional leaders called "They Got the Memo: Members of Congress Reveal How They Push a Pro-Women Agenda." Confirmed speakers include Lois Capps and Loretta Sanchez of California, Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, Carolyn Maloney of New York, and Gwen Moore of Wisconsin.

On Aug. 28, Women's eNews and the Ms. Foundation will present activists in a session called "The Memo: A Special Report on the Status of U.S. Women." Panelists include Rita Henley Jensen, founder and editor in chief of Women's eNews; Sara K. Gould, president and CEO of the Ms. Foundation; Liz Abzug, founder and president of the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute; Jaclyn Friedman, author of "Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape"; and Avis Jones-DeWeever, director of the Research, Public Policy, and Information Center for the National Council of Negro Women.

After that session, panelists will create YouTube interviews and podcasts.

Women's eNews -- which also hopes to have a panel presence at next month's Republican convention in Minneapolis -- plans to also write stories and blog posts from the two political gatherings. So far, the news service has raised $12,000 to cover costs of sending delegations to the conventions; the goal is $30,000 (see this July 1 E&P story).

Clients of Women's eNews include newspapers. And among the content on the news service's Web site is the "Commentoon" feature by Ann Telnaes (who does animations for WashingtonPost.com) and the "Sylvia" comic strip by Nicole Hollander of Tribune Media Services.
