By: E&P Staff Citing "tremendous growth," Erik Schut, president of WoodWing Software, Zaandam, the Netherlands, announced that publishing industry veteran Hans Janssen will take the position of CEO on Aug. 1. In addition, Ruud Rijbroek, a WoodWing founder, was named board chairman.
"We have some very ambitious growth objectives, and this will help us achieve them," Schut said in a statement. "The new board lineup will allow me to concentrate on product development and technology, while Hans focuses on business development."
Janssen has been involved with WoodWing since its inception, helping found the company with Schut and other technology experts who had worked together at Mediasystemen in the 1990s. IT director for Dutch publisher Telegraaf Media Groep for the past several years, Janssen decided to become more actively involved with its day-to-day operations.
Janssen's resume reflects more than 20 years' experience in the industry, both on the technical and business end. Trained in computer science and accounting, he began his career in the 1980s developing graphical page-design systems for newspapers. He later began to develop enterprise systems for advertising, and by the late 1990s, Janssen had become Mediasystemen technical director.
In 2000, he started two companies that handled regional news content. The next year he joined Telegraaf Media and took charge of developing the publishing group's IT strategy. For the past four years, he's served as managing director of Telegraaf Media ICT, the internal IT supplier for Telegraaf Media Groep.
