'Worcester (Mass.) Telegram & Gazette' Names New Publisher

By: E&P Staff Bruce Gaultney has been appointed publisher of the Worcester (Mass.) Telegram & Gazette, effective May 1. He succeeds Bruce S. Bennett, who is retiring after 34 years at the newspaper, 14 of which he spent as publisher.

Gaultney, 49, has been publisher of the Star-Banner of Ocala, Fla., since 2002. Before that, he served in a variety of positions including executive editor and general manager. He joined the New York Times Regional Media Group in 1983 as executive editor of the Daily Comet in Thibodaux, La., and has held editorial positions at other regional group newspapers.

Bennett, 61, began his career as a general news reporter for the Telegram & Gazette. He announced his retirement in late 2005.

In a statement released today, he said, "I have cherished my entire career at the Telegram & Gazette. .... I have every confidence that the newspaper and the area have a bright future."
