Would-Be 'OC Register' Publisher Buscaglia to Remain President of INMA

By: E&P Staff Marti Buscaglia, who was to become publisher of The Orange County Register in Santa Ana, Calif., but is not taking the job, will be able to keep her position as president of the International Newspaper Marketing Association (INMA).

Buscaglia was named publisher of the Register on June 6, but on Wednesday it was revealed that she had misrepresented details of her education background on her resume. Executives at the paper and Buscaglia agreed it would be best if she and the paper parted ways.

Earl Wilkinson, the INMA's executive director, remains confident of Buscaglia's skills in the industry. In a statement to E&P, he wrote: "We were surprised by the news, just like everyone else. Yet [the] news doesn't change the fact that Marti is in the midst of a stellar, three-decade career that has brought success at every newspaper with which she has been associated. She is a strong leader and manager, and we will continue to learn from her. We are proud that she is president of INMA, the culmination of an outstanding career."
