By: E&P Staff Dow Jones has reported that advertising revenue at its flagship newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, rose 5.8% in July, compared to a year ago. Ad volume increased 11.7%. The figures include revenue from the paper's weekend edition as well.

The newspaper saw increases in classifed, tech, and financial advertising, while there was a slight decline in general advertising.

At Barron's, another Dow Jones paper, total advertising revenue went up 50.7% last month on a 29.1% increase in advertising pages. This jump is due to an increase in financial advertising and one additional issue versus the prior year period. The increase was partially offset by a decline in auto advertising.

The company reported that international advertising revenue also increased, by 15.3%, last month because of strong color advertising sales at both The Wall Street Journal Asia and The Wall Street Journal Europe.
