By: The leaders of seven media outlets are demanding that international organizations be allowed access to an American journalist detained in Iran.
In a statement Tuesday, they urged that one or more groups be allowed to evaluate the conditions under which 31-year-old Roxana Saberi is being held.
They also asked that any charges against Saberi be made public.
The statement was signed by the top executives of NPR, ABC News, BBC News, PBS, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News and Feature Story News.
Iranian officials have said the freelance journalist, who was detained about a month ago, was engaged in "illegal" activities because she continued working in Iran after the government revoked her press credentials in 2006.
