By: E&P Staff Military Reporters & Editors has announced that Greg Jaffe of the Wall Street Journal has been awarded the 2006 Joseph L. Galloway Award for Distinguished Journalism and will receive the $2,000 prize.
The contest recognizes journalists covering military affairs domestically as well as overseas.
Jaffe was awarded the honor based on three stories covering the difficulties U.S. military forces face in trying to stabilize Iraq.
Other winners include Russell Carollo and Larry Kaplow (Dayton Daily News) for Overseas Coverage (greater than 100,000 circ); Monte Morin and Joseph Giordono (Stars and Stripes) for Overseas Coverage (less than 100,000 circ); Pamela Martinau and Steve Wiegand (Sacramento Bee) for Domestic Coverage (greater than 100,000 circ); and Ben Fenwick (Oklahoma Gazette) and Dennis Anderson (Antelope Valley Press) for Domestic Coverage (less than 100,000 circ).
Photographers also honored were Kim Komenich (San Francisco Chronicle) for large newspapers and Fred Zimmerman (Stars & Stripes) for small newspapers.
