'WSJ' Site Introduces 'Journal Women' Section

By: E&P Staff Wall Street Journal Online today announced the launch of a new section of its Web site that focuses exclusively on women in business.

The new section, called ?Journal Women,? is described in a Dow Jones press release as "a place where ambitious professional and executive women can come together to read and share ideas on work, family and the intersection of the two."

To help the new section gain traction, two of the Journal's prominent female columnists will produce work for it. Carol Hymowitz, who covers leadership issues for the site, will write a new online column called ?Above the Glass,? about women in the workplace. Sue Shellenbarger, author of the weekly ?Work & Family? column, will write about family issues for the section.

The new section?s other showcase will be ?The Juggle? -- a blog, as the name suggests, about the trade-offs of balancing work and family life.

There is also a section called ?Front Lines,? which will contain daily news briefs about women making headlines in business and other women?s issues in the news. "Front Lines" also invites women to share their experiences being a woman in the workforce.

Francesca Donner, editor of "Journal Women," said in a statement, ?This is a truly exciting development for WSJ.com and for our users who have come to expect -- and receive -- a unique perspective from the Journal. The insight and expertise of [our] columnists, as well as the engaging dialogue ... will ensure 'Journal Women' provides plenty of thought-provoking conversations among its users.?

"'Journal Women' is an expansion of the Journal?s business of life
franchise,? Alan Murray, executive editor of the Wall Street Journal Online, said in a statement. ?Our experience has shown us that there are a lot of business and professional women out there who crave not just fashion and beauty advice, but an intelligent news-oriented community where they can share experiences and swap ideas."
