WSJ.com Launches Desktop News Alerts

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Wall Street Journal Online today announced the launch of Desktop News Alerts, a service that delivers alerts on major business and world news, the markets, and technology to users' computer screens within minutes of major news events, according to a statement.

The Desktop News Alerts will appear in a small window on users desktops -- much like an instant-messaging window -- with a link to the Online Journal, where subscribers can access full coverage. Users have the option to shut off or "snooze" the alert, if they don't want to be interrupted at that time. Alerts will be sent as major news events happen, such as big mergers, large swings in the stock market, or significant world news. The Online Journal will continue to provide breaking-news alerts via e-mail.

The Online Journal, which is the largest paid subscription site on the Web, also announced that AT&T recently started advertising on this new service.
