By: E&P Staff The St. Petersburg Times is increasing the frequency of its youth publication, Tampa Bay Times, to five days a week starting March 6. The tabloid, also known as tbt*, was launched as a weekly in September 2004.
Monday through Thursday, 40,000 copies of the 40-page free tab will be distributed at locations around Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater, Fla. The Friday edition will be bigger, both in distribution (60,000 copies) and in content, with a special pull-out entertainment section.
"We've learned a lot in the last 18 months, especially how to successfully distribute a free newspaper in a metro market that doesn't have a major transit system," said Marty Petty, publisher of the Times, in a statement. "We don't have all the answers, but it's invigorating to reach new audiences in new ways."
Meanwhile, the Tampa Tribune has
sued the St. Petersburg Times over the name of the youth tab.
