By: E&P Staff Joseph H. Zerbey IV, president and CEO of the Newspaper Agency Corp. in Salt Lake City, will join MediaNews Group as vice president of operations for the company's East Coast papers.

The move is a homecoming of sorts for Zerbey, who first joined MediaNews in 1986 as publisher of the Bristol Press in Connecticut. He then served as president and CEO of the York Newspaper Co., which publishes the York Dispatch and the York Record. In his most recent post at the Newspaper Agency Corp., he headed up the joint operating agreement between The Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret Morning News.

In his new role, Zerbey will report to Anthony F. Tierno, senior vice president of operations for MediaNews Group.

MediaNews Group CEO William Dean Singleton said he expects to announce a new president and chief executive of the Newspaper Agency Corp. this week.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
