2 Ohio Papers Split on Clinton and Obama

Posted Monday, February 25, 2008 12:00 am

By: The Dayton Daily News today endorsed Barack Obama, while the Akron Beacon Journal endorsed his opponent in the state's March 4th Democratic primary, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Both newspapers said they are supporting John McCain in the Republican primary, citing his independence and his willingness to reach across the political middle to solve problems.

The Beacon Journal says Clinton has shown through her work in the U.S. Senate that she can work with Democrats and Republicans, and as a member of the Armed Services Committee, she's proven that she would be a competent commander in chief.

The Daily News says that despite his lack of experience, Obama would be a leader who would inspire Americans, and would also move the country beyond the bitter political battles of recent years.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
