By: E&P Staff Politico's Matt Wuerker has won the 2010 Herblock Prize for Editorial Cartooning.
Wuerker?s cartoons are featured in Politico?s print edition and online, and also accompany its enterprise stories. They also have appeared in such major outlets as The New York Times, The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times.
?There are so many wonderful cartoonists working today, producing great, strong cartoons who are certainly equally deserving, many of whom I'm lucky to know as friends,? Wuerker, a 2009 Pulitzer finalist, told the paper in a report. He added that he was ?absurdly lucky to get singled out like this.?
The prize is awarded annually by the Foundation for "distinguished examples of original editorial cartooning that exemplify the courageous standard set by Herblock." The winner receives a $15,000 after-tax cash prize and a sterling silver trophy.
Wuerker will be honored by the Herb Block Foundation April 15 at the Library of Congress.
