Interactive classified advertising software supplier Adicio Inc., Carlsbad, Calif., has enhanced its Real Estate platform's search features to increase usability and revenue opportunities.

New features include guided search, interactive maps, enhanced location search and search engine optimization, easy-to-navigate layout for results, and a spotlight listings carousel. Among the more than 100 sites that already have transitioned to the new platform are the Las Vegas Review Journal, Milwaukee Journal, San Diego Union Tribune and The Buffalo News.

Given the importance of search, Adicio chose not to use another company's technology, saying that the decision eliminates "hidden costs" and third-party upgrades and fixes, while enabling clients "to control their search facets - making them configurable and customizable."

The faceted search filter enables users to refine or expand searches using multi-select options. Results can be updated dynamically without re-running a search.

Adicio said its Careers platform also soon will transition to the new search functionality, followed by its Motors platform.

Interactive maps enable property seekers to zoom in and out to view listings within a specific area or region. Adicio enhanced its Location Search with Auto Suggested text to help users find properties faster within a single location search box. Users can search by city, state, Zip code, specific address or well-known area, such as Silicon Valley.

Adicio rewrote its CSS so that clients can more easily customize site interface and page layout. Clients also have control over the Search Form, Search Results and Listing Detail pages to create a completely branded user experience. The CSS will be used across all platforms so that clients on multiple platforms will only have to make one change to roll it out across all their Adicio platforms.

"We added an XML API that clients can use to create their own widgets and map mashups," Products Vice President Deep Menon said in a statement. "Now they can combine unique content that drives more traffic and leads to specific targeted listings on SEO-friendly landing pages, which creates new revenue opportunities for additional sponsorships."

Adicio's Spotlight Listings Carousel gives advertisers more visibility with rotating spotlight listings at the top of the search results. Depending on site layout, clients can display up to four such listings per page, automatically rotating every ten seconds to expand advertiser visibility.
