By: E&P Staff Agfa Graphics has announced new violet-laser newspaper platesetters designed to meet semicommercial needs. The Advantage N series builds on the Advantage and Polaris CTP systems, and is expected to ship early next year.
Four Advantage N models are available. The manual-loading, semi-automatic feed, and stack-loading machines produce 75-100 plates per hour. The fully automatic model has capacity for up to 1,000 plates and is faster, at 100-220 pph. All come with 900- to 2540-dpi resolutions built in and support Agfa's violet plates, including the chemistry-free plates.
Technology features that resulted from customer feedback include violet optics redesigned to improve image quality at all resolutions, according to Agfa Graphics Newspaper Segment Business Manager Kurt Smits. Other changes, he said, are plate positioning modified with FlexWheel and FlexPin registration systems, UGRA plate-control process automated with "PowerWedge," and a new user interface.
