Ankler Media, the most incisive and trusted voice covering the entertainment industry, has announced the launch of Like & Subscribe, a new standalone entertainment business trade dedicated to the creator economy and the talents and execs who drive it. Written by veteran entertainment and tech journalist Natalie Jarvey, Like & Subscribe will cover the global impact of creators and influencers as well as the companies that platform and amplify their content. Jarvey will also be a featured moderator at live events and podcast host.

In the weekly newsletter for paid subscribers, Jarvey will explore how the rise of content creators has fundamentally transformed the way audiences consume media, disrupting numerous industries from advertising and marketing to entertainment and commerce. As content creators continue to grow into powerful cultural forces, industries are scrambling to capitalize on this shift. The first edition of Like & Subscribe, hitting inboxes on Wednesday, will examine the topsy-turvy TikTok ban and its potential impact on the social media landscape, exploring how this shift will reshape content creation, monetization and competitor platforms.

As part of Ankler Media’s presence during this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Jarvey will be hosting a live edition of The Ankler podcast featuring TikTok and YouTube star Jordan Howlett on the intersection of creators, brands and Hollywood; the panel will also include Adobe Chief Brand Officer Heather Freeland, Academy Award-winning producer Dan Cogan and UTA Partner and Co-head of Entertainment & Culture Marketing Julian Jacobs. An upcoming Ankler podcast and Like & Subscribe newsletter also will feature Jarvey’s exclusive interviews with Sean Evans, host of Hot Ones, and Rhett & Link.

“Like & Subscribe is the first entertainment business trade dedicated to the $200 billion creator economy,” says Janice Min, CEO and editor-in-chief, Ankler Media. “As the definition of entertainment continues to expand past traditional film and TV in Hollywood, we are committed to leading the conversation around how the creator economy is transforming, and in many ways, driving the world of media and entertainment.”

Jarvey has covered the emergence of digital media and the creator economy for over a decade, most recently serving as Hollywood Correspondent at Vanity Fair. She previously was a correspondent at Business Insider and senior digital media editor at The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m thrilled to join Ankler Media at such an exciting time in its growth,” says Jarvey. “Influencers are continuing to disrupt the traditional media landscape and the wide range of industries and platforms that are eager to capitalize on their economic power. The role of digital creators in the recent presidential election and the frenzy around the TikTok ban are only further proof of the significance of social media platforms and the undeniable business around them.”

Like & Subscribe will debut at an introductory price of $129 a year on Substack.

The Ankler has experienced a meteoric rise, up 500 percent year-over-year in ad revenue in 2024, and up more than 600 percent in subscription revenue since launching as a Y Combinator company in January 2022. With more than 100,000 subscribers across its titles and more than 1.3 million podcast downloads, The Ankler has expanded into live events and is now the third-largest business publication on Substack, having both predicted and ridden the wave of change in the entertainment industry. While much of the media industry continues to contract, Ankler Media is steadily growing with its masthead now including contributors Manori Ravindran, Erik Barmack, Ashley Cullins, Sean McNulty and The Optionist’s Andy Lewis as well as staffers Elaine Low, Katey Rich, Richard Rushfield and executive editors  Alison Brower and David Lidsky.
