Another German Daily Orders KBA Cortina

By: E&P Staff German regional daily Sudkurier, in Contance, has ordered KBA's waterless offset Cortina press. The first section of the triplewide press line, which will comprise two 48-page sections, is to go live in fall of 2009.

To replace a KBA Express delivered 20 years earlier and extendedin 2000, the Cortina will have a maximum hourly output in straight production mode of 80,000 full-color 48-page broadsheet copies or 96-page tabloid copies. The four triple-wide compact towers will feature KBA's PlateTronic plate changers, RollerTronic roller setting, NipTronic remotely adjustable bearing units, color-register controls, blanket washing and central ink pumping.

Four KBA Pastomat CL reelstands will be engineered to handle a 59-inch reel diameter. Other features include eight double turning decks, two folder superstructures with three formers apiece, cut-off register controls, skip slitters, stitchers and two KBA KF 5 jaw folders. The press will be controlled from KBA ErgoTronic consoles with a link to job scheduling and press presetting systems and a Prime interface for integrating a soft-proofing system, according to KBA.

The sale to Sudkurier marks the 14th Cortina and the fourth triplewide version of KBA's waterless compact press.

Sudkurier is owned by the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group.
