The Web site of The Associated Press was hacked early on Wednesday, carrying a
banner reading "Owned by HFURY" on the news organization's home page, Reuters
reports.

The Associated Press offered no comment when its site, www.ap.org, was down in the
early hours of Wednesday morning.

Dotcom Scoop reported that the computer hackers were a Brazilian group which
claims responsibility for a total of 134 Web site defacements.

Other sites that have recently fallen prey to cyber vandalism include those of
the Microsoft Corp., U.S. government, and the Vatican.
