By: E&P Staff The Toronto Star is killing its afternoon downloadable PDF newspaper with the Wednesday edition.
In an e-mail to subscribers of the free StarP.M. edition, Star Editor In Chief Fred Kuntz said it is folding the PDF edition to focus on its Web site, www.thestar.com, and its new mobile service mobile.thestar.com.
The five-day StarP.M., which could be downloaded and printed into 12 letter-sized pages, was the first PDF daily in the U.S. and Canada when it launched a little more than a year ago.
"But time moves on, technology advances, and new, improved products replace old ones," Kuntz wrote.
The Web site is continuously updated seven days a week, and will include features from StarP.M., such as the Sudoku puzzles and daily On The Town events listings.
The mobile service, Kuntz said, is the best of thestar.com, with full-length versions of our top stories, specially formatted for small screens."
In coming months it will add more content, including sports scores and traffic reports, he said. No subscription is required for the mobile service.
