By: Staff Reports Advertising Revenue Increases At Newspapers
Belo reported second-quarter earnings, excluding a gain in 1999, rose 3.8% to 27 cents per share as its top three newspapers, two cents ahead of a First Call/Thomson Financial consensus estimate.
Total revenue rose 7.9% to $412.2 million. Revenue in the company's eight-member newspaper group rose 7.6% to $223.3 million. Publishing ad revenue rose 8.6%, led by strong growth at Belo's top three papers, The Dallas Morning News, The Providence (R.I.) Journal, and The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif.
Broadcast revenue rose 8.2% to $183.8 million.
